The Gold Humanism Honor Society Recognizes Compassion and Skill
An urgent care physician and medical director at UMD in New York, NY, in the US, Dr. Samuel Bride oversees the clinic and five to 10 additional staff members. In recognition of his commitment as a physician, Samuel “Sam” Bride, M.D. earned membership into the Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) in 2009.
GHHS is a unique medical award given by the Gold Foundation, an organization that promotes the human connection in the healthcare field. As with all of the Gold Foundation’s awards, it celebrates compassion, altruism, respect, and integrity in the medical community, along with superior clinical care. GHHS is given exclusively to peer-nominated medical students, but other Gold Foundation awards recognize medical professionals at every level of training.
An anonymous donor, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the Berrie Foundation provided the support necessary to create GHHS in 2002. Since that time, the Society has grown to include over 160 chapters at medical schools and residency programs. Meanwhile, it has inducted upwards of 35,000 physicians, medical leaders, and medical students into its ranks. These individuals all serve as mentors and role models in medicine since they exemplify compassionate patient care.
Being inducted into the Society comes with many benefits. In addition to being able to network with other GHHS members, the group funds research and professional growth opportunities for members. These include lectures, conferences, and workshops.
